Brunei's Central Bank updates Alert List over suspicious activities


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) has updated its Alert List, adding BTC 800 Lurotix for suspicious and/or unethical activities.

The BDCB Alert List is a list of persons (companies and individuals) that are currently not licensed, authorised or regulated by BDCB.

The Alert List is issued for the public to exercise caution and to avoid being misled to believe that the persons listed are licensed, authorised or regulated by BDCB.

This list is without prejudice to any further assessment by BDCB regarding the activities of the persons concerned. It can be found on the BDCB website.

BDCB reminded the public to only deal with financial institutions licensed by BDCB, and to avoid any unlicensed companies or individuals carrying out or offering financial services.

Among the financial products and services that must be licensed by BDCB include money remittance, money changing, money lending and pawn broking services. The public were also reminded that they will not have the protection under BDCB’s regulatory framework if they deal with companies or individuals which are unlicensed or unregulated.

The BDCB also advised the public to remain vigilant against any persons or entities who claim to represent, be affiliated with, or act on behalf of BDCB, including through the unauthorised use of BDCB’s name, logo or official identity to solicit funds, personal information or participation in financial schemes.

BDCB reaffirmed its committed to the financial stability of Brunei Darussalam and to safeguarding Brunei Darussalam’s financial system and the interests of financial consumers. BDCB will also continue to actively monitor any suspicious or unlicensed financial activities in Brunei Darussalam. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
