The modern romantic comedy “Love Has Fireworks” premieres today on iQIYI International. Starring Tan Jianci and Wang Churan in their first on-screen collaboration, the series is adapted from the novel by Hong Jiu on Jinjiang Literature City.
It follows investment banking professionals Qian Fei and Li Yifei as they evolve from reluctant co-tenants into lovers and career partners.
The story centers on the daily life of two people navigating personal and professional setbacks under one roof. Qian Fei, played by Wang Churan, is an ordinary investment banking employee striving to make a life in Shanghai. After facing setbacks in both love and work, she still has to shoulder her mortgage alone and is forced to rent out her spare room.
Li Yifei, played by Tan Jianci, is a typical investment banking elite who hits rock bottom after an investment failure and unexpectedly becomes Qian Fei’s tenant. Starting as bickering roommates who can hardly see eye to eye, the two gradually come to understand and support each other amid the pressures of work and life, eventually becoming both romantic partners and professional allies.
The contrast between landlord and tenant, combined with the professional texture of the investment banking world and the easy pace of a romantic comedy, helps the drama strike a balance between city realism and feel-good humor.
The supporting storylines also add memorable dynamics. Qian Fei’s close friend Yao Jingjing, played by Jiang Peiyao, is direct, loyal and becomes an important source of support during Qian Fei’s lowest moments. Li Yifei’s longtime friend Juncheng, played by Liu Ruilin, brings a talkative and humorous rich-heir persona that adds many light-hearted interactions to the series.
As the first collaboration between Tan Jianci and Wang Churan, “Love Has Fireworks” also presents both actors in fresh screen contexts. Tan Jianci takes on his first modern investment banking elite role outside the costume-drama genre, while Wang Churan returns to a contemporary urban setting after her costume time-travel comedy, portraying a working woman whose struggles and choices closely reflect the realities of today’s city life.
