Laos, Australia reaffirm commitment to human resource development

VIENTIANE: The governments of Laos and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to develop-ing a highly skilled workforce to support Laos’ modernisation efforts and long-term national development goals.

The commitment was reiterated during talks last Friday (June 5) between the Australian Ambassador to Laos, Megan Jones, and the Head of the Party Central Committee’s Personnel and Organisation Committee, Sisay Leudetmounsone.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in human resource development and capacity building, key areas of collaboration that support stronger Australia-Laos relations.

Jones congratulated Sisay on her reappointment and thanked her for her leadership in promoting practical and people-centred cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador highlighted Australia’s recent national budget, which reflects the country’s commitment to support a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. She said Australia will remain a reliable partner for Laos and Asean amid an evolving global environment.

Sisay welcomed Australia’s support for human resource development in Laos through the Laos Australia Institute, and noted that the initiative aligns with the country’s efforts to build a highly skilled workforce across government institutions, the private sector and communities nationwide to drive modernisation and achieve long-term development objectives.

Both sides acknowledged the significant contributions of Lao alumni who have benefit-ed from Australian education, training and professional development opportunities. They noted that the knowledge and skills gained through these programmes have helped advance Laos’ socio-economic development.

The meeting highlighted the importance of people-to-people ties fostered through educational and training exchanges, which continue to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

Sisay and Jones agreed to explore further opportunities for collaboration in human resource development for the benefit of both countries and the wider region. - Vientiane Times/ANN
