More than 444 vaporisers and related items were seized at the country’s air, land and sea checkpoints between Monday and Thursday, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
The seizures involved 56 cases of travellers found in possession of vaporisers, the ICA said in a Facebook post on Friday.
About 77% of the cases involved short-term visitors, while the remaining 23% involved Singapore residents, including citizens, permanent residents and long-term pass holders.
Vaping is illegal in Singapore. Those caught using vaporisers can be fined up to S$10,000 (RM40,897) while sellers face fines of up to S$200,000 (RM817,946) and six years in prison.
Smugglers can be fined up to S$300,000 (RM1.2mil) and jailed for up to nine years.
For foreign arrivals, short-term visitors who re-offend will be barred from re-entering Singapore, the ICA said.
Long-term residents who re-offend may have their passes revoked after a third offence. They may also be deported and barred from re-entering Singapore. — The Straits Times/ANN
