Indonesian Foreign Minister meets Myanmar president in Naypyidaw


YANGON: A delegation led by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono paid a courtesy call on Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyidaw on June 8, according to reports.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the long-standing friendship between Myanmar and Indonesia, noting the close ties between their governments and leaders since their independence struggles.

The Indonesian side said it understood the challenges currently facing Myanmar and expressed confidence that the government led by President U Min Aung Hlaing could help build a more developed and peaceful country.

The discussions also covered Indonesia’s continued support for Myanmar as part of Asean and as a friendly nation, as well as efforts to assist Myanmar in achieving peace and stability.

Both sides exchanged views on Myanmar’s implementation of the Asean Five-Point Consensus, strengthening Myanmar-Asean relations, and expanding bilateral diplomatic cooperation and friendship.

They also discussed democratic systems suited to each country’s own culture, beliefs, and traditions, and Myanmar’s efforts to establish a stable and development-oriented government.

The meeting was attended by senior Myanmar officials, including Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yi and U Tin Maung Swe, alongside Indonesian Foreign Ministry officials and representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Myanmar. - Eleven Media/ANN
