Hikers lost in Brunei park rescued safely

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Four hikers who were lost in Tasek Lama Recreational Park on Friday evening were found safe by the Fire and Rescue Department around 40 minutes later in the Wasai Labi-Labi area, about one kilometre from the parking area.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), an emergency call was received regarding an incident of lost persons in the forest area of Tasek Lama Recreational Park at 7.02pm.

Upon receiving the call, a fire engine from the Bandar Seri Begawan Fire Station, accompanied by four firefighters led by Abu Firdauz Abu Kasim, was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters promptly commenced a search and rescue operation in the Wasai Labi-Labi area.

Through the swift response and continued efforts of the rescue team, the four hikers who had been reported lost were located at approximately 7.40pm in the Wasai Labi-Labi area.

All four hikers were found safe and unharmed, with no injuries reported.

In light of the incident, the FRD advises members of the public to always inform family members or friends of their destination before entering recreational parks or forested areas.

Visitors are also reminded to use safe and familiar trails to reduce the risk of becoming lost. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
