HANOI (VNExpress): Supermodel Ming Xi and Mario Ho, son of the late Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho, held their long-delayed wedding ceremony in France on Monday.
The ceremony, themed "A Promise Fulfilled," was described as Ho’s gift to Ming after seven years together. The couple registered their marriage in July 2019 and now have two children, but they postponed a formal wedding following the death of Ho’s father, The Standard reported.
Details of the couple’s wedding gifts have emerged on Chinese social media, which include pink gift boxes with a Mario-inspired design and the initials "M&M" (Ming and Mario), according to Sina newspaper.
The gift set reportedly includes silk travel accessories, luxury skincare products, perfume, scented candles and traditional wedding pastries, along with Super Mario figurines of Mario and Princess Peach. The items are said to reflect a "prince and princess" theme, referencing Ho’s Mario-themed proposal in 2019.
Ming, born Xi Mengyao, had built a successful modeling career before marrying into the Ho family. She has walked for major fashion houses including Victoria’s Secret, Givenchy, Michael Kors, Balmain and Karl Lagerfeld. Dan Tri, citing Xinhua News Agency, described her as one of China’s top four supermodels, alongside Liu Wen, Sun Feifei and Shu Pei.
Her marriage connected that fashion-world fame with one of Asia’s best-known business dynasties. The Ho family built an empire spanning casinos, hotels and real estate, and once held a nearly 40-year monopoly over Macau’s gambling industry.
Forbes has estimated the family’s fortune at at least US$6.4 billion, though the real figure may be higher because not all family members’ wealth is publicly disclosed. In 2019, Bloomberg estimated Stanley Ho’s net worth at about US$14.9 billion, making him Asia’s 17th-richest person at the time. -- VNExpress
