MANILA: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will modernise its crime data system through a partnership with South Korea aimed at enhancing investigative work, reducing response times and improving case resolution across its units.
Recently, the PNP and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) signed a partnership agreement with the Korea International Cooperation Agency to develop the Criminal Investigation Data Management and Analysis System (CIDMAS).
The platform aims to unify crime-related databases and strengthen law enforcement operations nationwide.
“Through this collaboration, the PNP is adopting world-class methodologies in big-data crime analysis and strategic monitoring,” PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Sunday (May 31).
CIDMAS is expected to streamline data verification, improve coordination among law enforcement units and provide faster access to investigative records.
“By consolidating our separate crime databases into a single platform, we are eliminating redundant data encoding and giving our field investigators rapid access to critical, actionable information,” Nartatez said.
The PNP and the DILG have been coordinating with their South Korean counterparts, whose law enforcement agencies are recognised for their integrated systems and advanced use of technology in policing.
“This modernisation will significantly reduce our reaction times and substantially increase our case resolution rates across all regional units,” Nartatez said.
Drawing from South Korea’s experience, he said integrated technology supports a more proactive, data-driven approach to law enforcement through improved monitoring and crime prevention. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
