Brunei Minister attends defence dialogue in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Major General (Rtd) Halbi Mohd Yussof attended the Asean Defence Ministers’ Breakfast held on the sidelines of the 23rd Institute for Strategic Studies’ (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue at the Shangri-La Hotel.

The Asean Defence Ministers’ Breakfast was co-hosted by Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence of the Republic of Singapore Chan Chun Sing and Secretary of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines Gilberto C Teodoro, Jr in his capacity as Chairman of the Asean Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)for 2026.

During the breakfast, the Asean defence ministers and representatives reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and stability through the spirit of Asean Centrality and looked forward to the 20th ADMM and 13th ADMM-Plus this year.

In a separate event, the defence ministers and representatives from several Asean member states and Europe witnessed the launching of the Guiding Principles for Underwater Infrastructure Defence Exchange (GUIDE) by Chan Chun Sing.

The GUIDE is a non-binding, multilateral and cross-regional initiative spearheaded by the Republic of Singapore to bring together like-minded defence partners from Europe and South-East Asia to shape broader norms for defence cooperation in Critical Underwater Infrastructure (CUI) security.

On the sidelines of the 23rd IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, the Minister held bilateral calls with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of Australia Richard Marles MP, Chan Chun Sing and Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs of the Republic of Singapore K. Shanmugam.
