Ten Chinese online scam suspects arrested in Myanmar and handed over to China

YANGON: The “Wa” authorities announced that 10 Chinese nationals involved in online scam operations, who were jointly arrested by the “Wa” group and the Mongla group, have been handed over to China, according to a statement released by the Wa State Judiciary Department (WSP).

The WSP stated that the “Wa” group and the Mongla group successfully dismantled a major online scam syndicate through a joint operation.

During the operation, authorities seized 611 computers and 535 mobile phones along with the 10 Chinese suspects involved in online fraud activities.

The suspects were successfully transferred to the relevant Chinese authorities through the Daluo border gate in the Mongla region.

On May 2, following instructions from the central headquarters of the United Wa State Army (UWSA), a task force sent from Wa Special Region (2) arrived in Mongla Special Region (4) in eastern Shan State.

Both sides quickly formed a joint operation team and carried out extensive inspections of locations suspected of involvement in online fraud activities.

According to the WSP statement, the joint operation also uncovered 19 rooms used for online scam operations, along with computers, mobile phones and one Alpha vehicle.

WSP stated that as of May 3, a total of 78 people involved in online scam operations had been arrested, including 10 Chinese nationals.

The statement added that the online scam syndicates mainly engaged in sexual extortion, debt collection schemes and cross-border online financial fraud. - Eleven Media/ANN
