Myanmar police seize 77kg of heroin, 4 million stimulant tablets

YANGON: Myanmar police have seized 77kg of heroin and 4 million stimulant tablets in Sagaing and Mandalay regions, the state-owned daily The Mirror reported on Saturday (May 9).

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police intercepted two vehicles near the entrance to Kale town in Sagaing region on April 12 and confiscated 48.4kg of heroin, the report said.

Following further investigations, police searched another vehicle and seized an additional 28.6kg of heroin.

Following the investigation, police also seized 4 million stimulant tablets from a parked vehicle in Pyigyitagon township in Mandalay region on April 30, the report said.

In connection with the seizures, nine suspects were arrested in Sagaing, Mandalay, and Bago regions, the report said.

The suspects have been charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, while further investigations are ongoing, it added. - Xinhua
