JAKARTA: (Bernama) Indonesia’s Transport Ministry has summoned a taxi operator for questioning following reports that a taxi was involved in the sequence of events leading to the train collision at Bekasi Timur Station in West Java that left 15 people dead.

Director General of Land Transport Aan Suhanan said the management of ride-hailing taxi operator Green SM Indonesia has been called in for clarification.

"We have formed a special team to further investigate the involvement of Green SM taxis, including their licensing, administrative completeness, safety standards, and compliance with public transport operational regulations,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 28).

According to Antara News Agency, the collision was caused by a taxi that stopped on or near a railway crossing, disrupting train movements prior to the incident on Monday night.

The report said a commuter train was forced to halt before being struck from behind by a long-distance train on the same track.

Earlier, Head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office Desiana Kartika Bahari said 85 survivors had been recorded, including those receiving treatment and others who had been discharged with minor injuries.

Aan said the taxi involved was registered and holds a valid operational permit until October 2026, but authorities would conduct further audits on the company’s safety management system.

Separately, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) chief Mohammad Syafii said rescue and evacuation operations were completed in less than 12 hours, ending at 8am on Tuesday.

He said strict procedures will remain in place during the clearing of the wreckage. - Bernama
