Tamil Nadu firecracker factory blast: 16 killed, six injured; CM Stalin expresses sorrow


TAMIL NADU, (India): At least 16 people, including women, were killed and six others were injured following a massive explosion at a firecracker factory in poll-bound Tamil Nadu’s Kattanarpatti near Virudhunagar, Fire and Rescue Department said.

Following the incident, emergency reacue teams, including police, fire department and ambulances were rushed to spot. The injured were shifted to hospitals nearby hospitals.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin expressed sorrow over the deaths and offered condolences to the families of the victims.

“The tragic news of the deaths of several people in the firecracker factory explosion that occurred in Kattanapatti, Virudhunagar district, causes immense sorrow. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives,” CM stalin said.

He directed state ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu to visit the spot and monitor rescue operations.

“I have requested the esteemed Ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu to rush to the scene immediately to expedite and monitor the rescue operations and to offer solace to the affected families,” he said in a Tamil.

The Chief Minister further stated that the District Collector has also been instructed to coordinate all necessary assistance. - The Statesman/ANN
