PHNOM PENH: Almost 50,000 domestic and international tourists visited Ratanakkiri province during the three days of the Khmer New Year holiday.

According to the Provincial Department of Tourism, from April 14–16, the province welcomed 47,655 guests, 770 them foreigners.

More than 100,000 Ratanakkiri residents also travelled within the province, with the department reporting total tourist numbers up by nearly five per cent on the previous year.

Department director Nget Pitou noted that hospitality operators had not engaged in any price gouging during the holiday, as well as highlighting the attention the authorities and other stakeholders paid to ensuring the province’s towns and tourist attractions were clean and attractive.

One of the most popular destinations was Boeung Kanseng, a key tourism area which features gardens, LED screens, zip lines and a sculpture park.

Pitou explained that the provincial administration organized the “Ratanakkiri Sangkran” event and concerts, along with installing decorative lighting in public areas across both government and private institutions to enhance the city’s beauty.

Security at tourist sites was well maintained, and environmental management and public order were also effectively handled, he said.

“Over these three days, the people of Ratanakkiri were joyful and appreciative of the provincial administration for organising the Ratanakkiri Sangkran event. Tourist destinations across the province maintained good environmental management and public order following guidance from the provincial tourism department’s working team,” he added. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
