Yangon power lines restored, electricity supply resumes

YANGON: The Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) has announced that electricity transmission to Yangon Region has resumed following the successful repair of the 230 KV Shwe Taung–Myaung Takar No. (1) and No. (2) Transmission lines.

Repair works were carried out between March 28 and April 3 by a total of 135 personnel, led by a director (Mechanical/Electrical). The team operated under security arrangements provided by local military units.

During the operation, two damaged transmission towers—No. 310 and No. 311—which had collapsed, were dismantled and replaced with newly constructed towers.

In addition, two towers—No. 309 and No. 312—that had tilted were repaired and stabilized.

Engineers also fixed damaged sections of transmission lines between towers No. 309 and No. 312. This included reinstalling power lines, earth wires, and OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) cables.

As the repair work has been completed, the 230 kV Shwe Taung - Myaung Takar No. (1) power line was restored to normal at 9:15 pm on April 2 and the 230 kV Shwe Taung - Myaung Takar No. (2) power line was restored to normal at 7:20 pm on April 3.

Approximately (300) megawatts of electricity generated from Upper Myanmar through the No. (1+2) power line is being transmitted within the power system and into Yangon Region, and in the current situation, only the necessary electricity should be used economically. - Eleven Media/ANN
