SINGAPORE (Bernama): Singapore's Homefront Crisis Ministerial Committee (HCMC) will focus on assessing the impact of the conflict in West Asia on fuel supply disruptions, rising food prices and related products.

Coordinating Minister for National Security and HCMC chairperson K Shanmugam said the committee will also address diplomatic issues, relations with other countries, and security issues amid the ongoing conflicts.

"It is a serious situation all around the world. You have seen in many parts of the world, many countries have taken measures to cut back on use of electricity and fuel.

"We have not taken those measures yet, and we will explain how we approach it," he told reporters at a community event on Saturday.

He added that the committee has been holding meetings since it was established.

According to Shanmugam, the HCMC comprises Sustainability and the Environment Ministry for food issues; the Trade and Industry Ministry for energy issues; the Foreign Ministry; Defence Ministry and the Home Ministry.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the establishment of the committee on Thursday to coordinate the nation’s response to the ongoing global energy crisis, with Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong acting as adviser.
