Singapore tightens public health measures for measles from Apr 1 after 12 new cases

SINGAPORE (Bernama): Singapore will implement enhanced public health measures for measles from April 1, 2026, said the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA).

The revised public health measures come after 12 new cases were reported between Feb 1 and March 24, 2026, extending the stepped-up precautionary measures implemented since February 2026.

In a statement on Tuesday, CDA said 11 of the new cases were not fully vaccinated, including two infants under 12 months old who were not yet eligible for the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination.

"Among the 12 cases, eight are not genetically identical to one another, while four belong to a known cluster.”

"There is no evidence of wider community spread. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing,” it said.

The agency said it will continue to closely monitor Singapore’s measles situation and adjust public health measures as it evolves to prevent community transmission and maintain herd immunity.

"While we may occasionally detect small clusters with limited spread given the global rise in measles cases, the risk of large outbreaks in the community remains low due to the high vaccination coverage and herd immunity among Singapore residents,” it added.
