MANILA: State volcanologists observed lava fountaining at Mayon Volcano on Friday (March 27) night.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the lava fountaining occurred at 8:23pm and 8:40pm.

“These events produced ash clouds that rose 400 meters before drifting west-southwest,” Phivolcs said.

“Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 82nd consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents or ‘uson,’ and rockfalls,” it added.

Alert Level 3 remains over Mayon, and entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone is prohibited. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
