BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A cyclist suffered injuries to his head, lungs, and spine following a traffic accident on Saturday (March 21) that occurred nearby to the Mengkubau Bridge, Jalan Utama Mentiri.

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), an emergency call was received via the 993 hotline around 10.10pm reporting the incident. The car is believed to have collided with a cyclist.

The victim is currently being treated at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital for injuries to the head, lungs, and spine.

The driver, a 32-year-old local man, was found to hold a valid driving licence, with the vehicle also having valid road tax and insurance.

According to the initial investigation, the driver, who was in the left lane, was reportedly trying to turn into the junction towards the bridge before hitting the cyclist, who was riding in the white divider line area.

It is believed that the driver did not notice the cyclist due to the dark condition of the road.

Further investigation also revealed that the victim was not wearing a helmet, and the bicycle’s lights were not functioning at the time of the incident.

Both bicycle and vehicle have been brought to the Muara Police Station for further investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
