PHNOM PENH: The joint forces of the Phnom Penh Municipality raided a house suspected of housing a technology-based fraud operation in the capital’s Chbar Ampov district Tuesday (March 17), detaining 19 Chinese nationals.

During the operation, in Borey Peng Huoth in Boeung Snor Sangkat Niroth commune, authorities seized three replica Chinese police uniforms, along with numerous mobile phones and computers.

According to the Secretariat of Commission for Combating Technology Crimes (CCTC), preliminarily conclusions suggest that the suspects used Cambodian territory as a base to conduct online scams by impersonating Chinese law enforcement officers and using forged documents.

The suspects and the evidence have been transferred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police to proceed with legal action and identify the “masterminds” behind the operation.

Prime Minister Hun Manet recently reiterated that Cambodia is no longer a place where cybercriminals can commit scams or transnational crimes.

He emphasised that any individual or entity behind these activities will face the highest penalties, without no leniency or intervention. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
