PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Tourism used the occasion of a South Korean festival in Phnom Penh to reassure the world that Cambodia remains a safe tourist destination and is ready to offer a warm welcome to guests from around the world.

The Saturday (March 14) K-WAVE Peace Concert 2026 aimed to strengthen Cambodia-Korea relations.

Organised by the Cambodian branch of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (PUAC), it featured a video message from South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, PUAC chairman, as well as the presence of South Korean ambassador Kim Chang-yong and numerous other key stakeholders.

The tourism ministry described the event as “highly significant for both nations in promoting the values of peace and unity, as well as reaffirming their commitment to strengthening and expanding their ‘strategic partnership’”.

The event contributed to “cooperation in promoting tourism, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, and jointly combatting and completely eradicating the international online scam crimes that have negatively impacted travel, business and tourism,” it added.

Tourism minister Huot Hak highlighted the significance of the concert and reaffirmed that Cambodia remains a safe tourist destination, despite the Kingdom’s reputation being tarnished by online scams in the past.

He emphasised that Cambodia is a safe tourist destination, offering warm and friendly hospitality to tourists from around the globe.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia has been taking stringent measures to crack down on and eradicate technology-based scam crimes by the root, in order to ensure a safe and trustworthy environment for tourists, citizens and investors,” he noted.

According to the ministry, in the first two months of 2026, Cambodia welcomed nearly 690,000 international guests, including approximately 15,100 Koreans. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
