Joint operations in Brunei uncover multiple offences

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Tutong Police District of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) with other law enforcement agencies on Saturday (Feb 14) carried two separate joint road block operations at several locations.

According to the RBPF, the first road block operation was held in the morning at Kampong Kiudang areas led by Acting OCS Lamunin Police Station Nurbazilah Abdul Razak and 12 officers.

During the operation, 21 compound violations were issued by Lamunin Police Station under the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 68 such as installing tinted window films, driving vehicles deemed unroadworthy in terms of safety, and unauthorised vehicle modifications.

During the same operation, Royal Customs and Excise Department personnel detained six individuals and seized several packets of cigarettes of various brands as well as one unit of vape device for further action.

While the Narcotics Control Bureau did not detect any offences, the Land Transport Department issued three compound fines for worn out tyres and vehicles that were not roadworthy in terms of safety.

Later that same evening, another joint operation was carried out involving a roadblock at KM 71.4 of the Muara-Tutong Highway in Kampong Bukit Panggal, as well as inspections of premises in the Kampong Petani area in the Tutong District.

DCO Tutong ASP Syed Mohd Afidzul Azeez bin Sheikh Abu Bakar led the operation which included 29 personnel and officers of the Tutong Police District.

Twelve compound offences and four docket offences were uncovered involving vehicle modification offences, expired driving licences and expired vehicle licences at the roadblock conducted at night.

Meanwhile during an inspection of premises, Royal Customs and Excise Department personnel seized a large number of cigarettes believed to be contraband.

Seizure notices were issued to 15 individuals, who were instructed to report to the Royal Customs and Excise Department Office in Kuala Belait.

The Labour Department detected several regulatory violations involving employee welfare and management, including issues related to accommodation cleanliness, undeclared addresses, absence of employment contracts, and the failure to grant rest days and public holidays.

Meanwhile, the Immigration and National Registration Department detained a Thai female national suspected of overstaying and working using a visit pass.

Throughout the operation, no offences were detected by the Narcotics Control Bureau and the Religious Enforcement Unit.

The RBPF, through the Belait Police District, carried out three separate Joint Operations on Feb 15, which saw several roadblocks and crime-prevention activities at locations around Seria and Kuala Belait, in collaboration with multiple enforcement agencies.

The operations commenced in the afternoon with roadblocks at two locations, including the Rasau By-Pass area and the Lumut Highway.

The roadblocks were led by Belait District Traffic Officer (DTO) DSP Mohammad Ruddy Mas-Sharhain bin Haji Sarbini, accompanied by personnel from police stations in the Belait District and other enforcement agencies.

During the operation, 48 traffic compounds were issued for various offences.

The majority of the violations involved the installation of unauthorised tinted windows, expired driving licences, expired road tax, modified licence plates, and the use of private vehicles for commercial purposes without valid permits.

The Immigration and National Registration Department also recorded three offences under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17, and the Royal Customs and Excise Department, relating to the possession of cigarettes and vape products under the Excise Order 2006.

Meanwhile, the Narcotics Control Bureau and the Religious Enforcement Division reported no offences during the roadblock operation.

Another Joint Crime Prevention Operation was conducted at Simpang 198, Barracks 421 No B7, Lorong 3 Selatan, Seria, in the night, involving 37 RBPF personnel led by Belait District Crime Officer (DCO) DSP Mohd Izzuddin Hanis bin Haji Md Salleh, accompanied by officers from enforcement agencies.

During the operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau detained two locals suspected of possessing 5.46 grammes of syabu (methamphetamine) and an item believed to be used for consuming controlled drugs. The suspects were taken in for further investigation.

The Royal Customs and Excise Department officers also discovered one carton of cigarettes and one electronic cigarette unit. All prohibited items were seized.

A third Joint Crime Prevention Operation was carried out the same night at a workers’ residence in the Kampong Baru area.

A total of 25 occupants were inspected, revealing two offences related to passport verification under Immigration and National Registration Department regulations, as well as one case involving prohibited items in the form of 14 sticks of non-duty-paid cigarettes detected by Royal Customs and Excise Department personnel.
