BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Five out of 19 companies that were previously issued warnings, received compound fines of BND500 (US$395) each, for failing to comply with directives from the authorities and for breaching the Town and Country Planning (Composition of Offences) Regulations, 2018.

The violations relate to placing and displaying goods in pedestrian walkway areas as well as using these spaces for vehicle repair activities.

The Department of Town and Country Planning explained that such actions pose potential hazards due to slippery and unsanitary conditions and may also negatively affect the aesthetic value and overall appearance of commercial areas in the country.

The offences were identified during Operasi Kemas (OPKEMAS) conducted on January 19 and 21 by the Planning Authority members through the Department of Town and Country Planning.

Offenders are given a period of seven days from the date the compound notice is issued to settle the fines.

The Planning Authority, through the Department of Town and Country Planning at the Ministry of Development, reminded the public, particularly companies and owners of commercial and industrial buildings, to comply with planning laws to ensure that the cleanliness, safety and visual appeal of business areas in the country are properly maintained. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
