Four young children killed and three others hurt after truck-tricycle collision in northern Philippines

MANILA (Xinhua): Four minors were killed and three others injured in a collision between a trailer truck and a tricycle in Isabela province in the northern Philippines, according to police on Sunday.

Police said the crash occurred on Friday evening in Santiago City after a tricycle, driven by a 17-year-old and carrying six minors, allegedly made a sudden left turn and was struck by a truck traveling in the opposite lane.

The victims - four siblings and their three cousins - were rushed to a local hospital, where four were declared dead on arrival, police said. The three injured people have been undergoing treatment.

Initial police investigation showed that the tricycle was heading home from a grade school when the accident occurred.

Police have taken the truck driver into custody as investigators work to determine accountability for the incident.
