14 killed in Zimbabwe road accident involving Malawi-bound bus

HARARE, May 5 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people died Tuesday in a road accident involving a Malawi-bound bus in Zimbabwe's Mutoko District, Mashonaland East Province, police said in a short statement on X.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. local time on the Harare-Nyamapanda road near Suswe. The bus was traveling from Cape Town, South Africa, to Malawi.

Initial police investigations confirmed 14 fatalities among the 63 passengers on board. The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.

Some of the injured victims were taken to hospitals, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said, adding that further details will be released in due course.
