YANGON: According to a statement released by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck at 1:26:31am on Jan 20, with its epicentre located about 11 miles northeast of Nyaungdon Township in the Ayeyarwady Region.
The department reported that the earthquake occurred at 1:26:31am. Myanmar Standard Time on Jan 20, with the epicentre situated approximately 35 miles northwest of the Kaba Aye Seismological Observatory (about 11 miles northeast of Nyaungdon Township), at latitude 17.17 degrees north and longitude 95.73 degrees east, at a depth of 10km.
The tremor was classified as a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale.
Earlier, at around 10:14pm on Jan 19, another earthquake was also felt in Yangon.
That earthquake occurred approximately 34 miles northwest of the Kaba Aye Seismological Observatory, within Myanmar (about 18 miles southwest of Taikkyi Township), at latitude 17.16 degrees north and longitude 95.75 degrees east, with a depth of 10km. It was also reported to have a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale. - Eleven Media Group/ANN
