Cambodia makes US$15.5bil from exports of garments, shoes, travel goods in 2025

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia exported garments, shoes, and travel goods totally worth US$15.5 billion in 2025, a year-on-year rise of 15.7 per cent, said a Ministry of Commerce's report obtained on Monday (Jan 19).

Garments worth US$11.4 billion were exported in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 16.5 per cent, the report said, adding that footwear products worth US$2.09 billion were shipped to international markets, up 24.5 per cent.

Also, travel goods equivalent to US$2.02 billion were exported last year, up 3.8 per cent, the report said.

The garment, footwear and travel goods industry is Cambodia's largest foreign exchange earner, accounting for approximately 50 per cent of the kingdom's total export value, according to the report.

The sector currently consists of more than 1,500 factories and branches, employing over 900,000 workers, mostly women, according to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China-Asean Studies Centre of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the double-digit growth reflected Cambodia's effective market diversification beyond its traditional trading partners.

"I think the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement has also given a boost to this growth," he told Xinhua. "And this upward trend is likely to continue this year, supported by external demand and new investment inflows from China, South Korea and Japan." - Xinhua
