Over three million S. Koreans opt out of life-sustaining treatment


SEOUL: More than 3.2 million South Koreans have formally opted out of life-sustaining treatment in the event of incurable illness, according to data released on Monday (Jan 19) by the National Agency for Management of Life-sustaining Treatment.

The total stood at 3.2 million as at December, including 2.13 million women and 1.07 million men, reflecting a steady rise in participation in the country’s end-of-life decision system, often described as allowing a “dignified death”.
