Laos emphasises anti-corruption efforts to boost growth

VIENTIANE: Laos' Ministry of Industry and Commerce marked the 22nd International Anti-Corruption Day, emphasising that combating corruption is essential for sustainable economic growth and highlighting ongoing efforts to foster transparency, integrity and professionalism for the benefit of the nation and its people.

Addressing the celebration on Wednesday in the Lao capital Vientiane, Lao Minister of Industry and Commerce Malaithong Kommasith underscored the significance of the day, describing it as a reminder of the ongoing threat of corruption, which erodes national unity, public trust and economic growth, according to the ministry's statement on Thursday (Jan 15).

He said that fighting corruption is not only a legal duty but also vital for sustainable economic growth and national competitiveness.

Calling for collective action, he stressed that combating corruption cannot rely solely on top-down leadership and highlighted the need for cooperation, strict law enforcement, and an environment of transparency, professionalism and accountability to serve the nation and its people. - Xinhua
