Seven workers die in sugar factory explosion in southern India


NEW DELHI: A sugar factory explosion in southern India on Wednesday (Jan 7) has killed seven people.

The incident occurred in Karnataka state's Belagavi district while repair work was being carried out at a 12-metre-high boiler, local media reported.

Three deaths were reported initially, but the toll increased on Thursday after four more workers died from injuries caused by scalding water during the boiler blast.
