64 killed, 341 injured in Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway accidents in 2025


YANGON: A total of 64 people were killed and 341 injured in 180 traffic accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway in 2025, according to the highway traffic police force on Wednesday (Jan 7).

This marks a decrease in accidents, fatalities and injuries compared with 2024, which recorded 203 accidents, resulting in 88 deaths and 360 injuries, an official from the highway traffic police force told Xinhua.

In 2025, the accidents also caused damage estimated at over 955 million kyats (about US$454,761), he said.

The 587km Yangon-Mandalay expressway connects the country's commercial city of Yangon and the second-largest city of Mandalay. - Xinhua
