MANILA: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recorded more than 120,000 passengers travelling through seaports nationwide a day before New Year’s Eve.

In an advisory, the PCG said it monitored a total of 126,730 passengers from noon to 6pm on Tuesday (Dec 30), with 65,626 outbound and 61,104 inbound travellers.

Aside from monitoring passenger traffic, the agency also deployed frontline personnel who inspected 467 vessels and 802 motorbancas.

To ensure public safety during the holiday travel rush, the Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier ordered the strengthening of police presence along major thoroughfares nationwide.

The PNP deployed 56,785 personnel across major roads, transport terminals, and other high-traffic areas, including 11,129 officers assigned to motorist assistance hubs to provide aid to travellers. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
