The Thai army reported alleged evidence that Cambodia used villages as military bases to target Thai forces, with ongoing attacks in some areas.

Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, stated yesterday that the Thai military has evidence showing Cambodia used its village locations as cover and bases for launching attacks on Thai forces.

Thailand intends to gather this evidence to bring international attention to Cambodia’s brutal actions, which violate human rights and international conventions.

Since Sunday, Cambodia has been launching attacks towards the Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province, prompting Thailand to issue an emergency evacuation order for citizens in the affected areas.

THE country has issued an open letter to the international community accusing Thailand of carrying out “planned, acknowledged and deliberate” military aggression along Cambodia’s western border since Dec 7, and warning that silence or inaction risks undermining the credibility of the international legal order.

In the letter, Cambodia rejects any claim that the clashes were accidental or uncontrolled, asserting instead that Thailand has waged a coordinated war involving land, air and naval forces.

According to the document, Thai troops have advanced onto Cambodian territory, planted flags on Cambodian soil and launched attacks against military positions, civilians, temples and historic monuments.

The letter begins with a firm rejection of any allegation that Cambodia initiated the conflict.

It argued that, as a smaller country in terms of territory and military capacity, Cambodia lacks both the intention and capability to attack a neighbour “three times more powerful”. — The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
