In a for wet week - Heavy showers, gusty winds expected nationwide, says Brunei weatherman

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei is currently experiencing the northeast monsoon season, which is expected to continue until March 2026, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD).

The department said active weather conditions are forecast from yesterday until Thursday, with showers – at times heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms – expected to affect several parts of the country.

The rain is likely to occur mainly in the afternoon and at night and could persist into the early morning hours.Wind gusts of up to 45 kilometres per hour may occur during or near heavy and thundery showers.

Over Brunei waters, sea conditions are expected to remain at slight to moderate levels, with wave heights ranging between 0.4 and 1.2 metres.

Authorities have advised the public to take precautionary measures during the period of active weather. There is a heightened risk of flash floods, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as along riverbanks during prolonged heavy rain and high tide.

The risk of landslides, fallen trees and damage to roofs is also possible during heavy showers and strong winds. Moderate sea conditions may pose hazards to small boats, as well as recreational and marine sports activities.

The public, road users and fishermen are urged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts, advisories and warnings issued by the BDMD and to take necessary steps to ensure safety.

The department said it will continue to monitor weather conditions and will issue further advisories or warnings if necessary. -- Borneo Bulletin/ANN
