MANILA: Some pageant fans have been making comparisons between Miss Universe 2025 Fatima Bosch and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, pointing out how they were both crowned in Thailand and are “unforgettable.”

Pageant fan page Pageant Times shared via its Instagram page on Monday (Nov 24), a stitched photo of the Filipino beauty queen and Bosch donning their respective lava red evening gowns from their coronations.

The caption read, “Two most recent Miss Universe queens crowned in Thailand: Catriona Gray from the Philippines in 2018 and Fatima Bosch from Mexico in 2025.”

The Miss Universe 2018 and 2025 pageants were both held in Bangkok.

“Catriona lit up the world with her ‘lava’ walk, and Fatima claimed her crown through grace and resilience. Different years, different stories but both in red, both unforgettable,” it added.

Bosch seemingly welcomed the comparison as she liked the fan page’s post and even shared it via her Instagram Stories. The post also included Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” as the background music.

Bosch emerged as the Miss Universe 2025 titleholder after the coronation show held on Nov 21.

Her win, however, was marred by controversies after resigned judge Omar Harfouch alleged that the competition was rigged and that the results had been predetermined.

Miss Universe Organization president Raul Rocha denied this, saying they would take legal action over such accusations.

Bosch, for her part, declared that her victory was destined by God.

Gray, meanwhile, was among the many who expressed hopes for a “more transparent judging process” in the Miss Universe pageant.

“My prayer has always been (as someone who has experienced a competition with vague judging methods first hand lol), is that the girls be given a fair competition,” she said.

“So my question becomes for the MU org. I hope moving forward they can regain the trust of the fans by having a more transparent judging process with a third party official tabulator.”

Gray nonetheless spoke against the hate toward Bosch, saying she is looking forward to seeing the latter’s efforts in making a positive impact. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
