MANILA, Nov 21 (Bernama-PNA) -- Ash emission was recorded anew from Kanlaon Volcano's summit crater on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said, Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.
The emission, which started at 7.12 am and ended at 7.20 am on Friday, has generated greyish plumes reaching 75 metres above the crater. The plume drifted west-southwest.
Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol earlier explained that ash emission is expected for Kanlaon Volcano since it is under Alert Level 2 or moderate level of unrest.
"Ash emissions happen when there is a new release of volcanic gas and pressure,” he said.
Bacolcol added that the degassing process brings fine and dry materials or ash that can be found on the volcano's crater.
At Alert Level 2, the public is advised to stay out of the volcano's four-kilometre permanent danger zone due to the risk of sudden explosions, pyroclastic density currents, rockfalls, and exposure to harmful volcanic gases. -- Bernama-PNA
