BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei, together with the 10 other Asean member states, formally signed the Asean Treaty on Extradition on the sidelines of the 13th Asean Law Ministers Meeting (ALAWMM), held on November 14 and 15 in Manila, the Philippines.

Signing the Asean Treaty on Extradition on behalf of the government of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah was Attorney General Datin Seri Paduka Nor Hashimah Muhammed Taib, as the central authority of Brunei for extradition matters.

The signing marks a landmark achievement and a key deliverable under the Asean Political-Security Community Blueprint 2025 and the Asean Political-Security Plan in Asean Community Vision 2045: Our Shared Future.

The Treaty aims to strengthen Asean’s resilience, uphold the rule of law, combat cross-border crime, enhance procedural transparency, and streamline the extradition process among member states.

This initiative represents a significant step towards establishing a stronger legal framework for extradition cooperation and ensuring its effective implementation across the region.

It underscores Brunei’s commitment to deepening regional legal collaboration in addressing transnational crime.
