Top Malaysian singer Khai Bahar makes a scorching return with new ballad 'Kalau Bukan Aku'

Popular Malaysian singer, Khai Bahar, once again captivates fans with his latest single titled “Kalau Bukan Aku” — a modern ballad full of emotion and honesty, composed by Farouk Roman, lyrics by Senna, with music arrangement by Wan Saleh and guidance by Afif Tirmizie as vocal producer.

The song is published under the top local label Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia and has been available on all digital platforms since October 24, 2025.

Featuring a more mature and profound side of Khai, “Kalau Bukan Aku” addresses the theme of love that doesn’t necessarily end happily, but still leaves room for acceptance and perseverance. With a blend of classic ballad melodies and contemporary production touches, this work highlights Khai’s vocal strength in conveying feelings of hurt and acceptance with complete honesty.

“First of all, because I got to work with Farouk Roman, and secondly, because of this song itself. It has a different nuance from my other songs,” said Khai Bahar about his excitement to perform this song.

“When I first heard the demo, I immediately felt mesmerized — I was sure this song would go far.” In terms of delivery, Khai admitted that “Kalau Bukan Aku” was one of the most challenging songs from a vocal and emotional aspect. And I'm indeed proud of the outcome."

Commenting further on the recording process, Khai also shared, “I found it easy to work with Afif because this is not the first time he has taken care of my vocals. There is already chemistry. The way this song is sung is also different — more mature, with lyrics that are very close to many people.”

Meanwhile, composer Farouk Roman explained that the inspiration for this song came from a love story that does not necessarily end happily.

“I imagine the feelings of someone who is still loyal even though the relationship has ended — a sense of relief, but still there is love left behind. From there, I tried to translate that emotion into a soft but painful melody,” he explained, and further added that his working relationship with Senna and Wan Saleh has always been excellent.

"I have been working with Senna for a long time because his writing style is very poetic but real. For the musical arrangement, Wan Saleh was a natural choice because he is good at balancing the emotions of a ballad with modern elements without losing the soul of the song," added Farouk.

From a production point of view, Farouk emphasized the balance between emotion and commercialism so that this song remains honest and close to the hearts of the listeners.
