SYDNEY: A fire broke out in the brakes of a Virgin Australia flight shortly after landing at Brisbane Airport in Australia on Thursday night (Nov 6), triggering an emergency response.

Virgin Australia said on Friday that none of the 178 passengers and crew on board the flight were injured.

The brake system of the Boeing 737-800 caught fire after flight VA454 from Darwin landed in Brisbane around 7 p.m. local time on Thursday night.

The incident prompted an emergency response, with several airport firefighter crews deployed to extinguish the blaze.

"The fire was quickly extinguished, and all guests and crew disembarked normally and safely," an airline spokesperson said.

They said that engineers would assess what caused the fire before the aircraft returns to service.

Virgin Australia said that the incident did not cause any delays and was not expected to impact scheduled flights on Friday. - Xinhua
