Over 20 children rescued after being held hostage by man in Mumbai; he wanted to ‘speak to a few people’

MUMBAI, (India): Several children were on Thursday (Oct 30) taken hostage by a man at a studio in Mumbai before being rescued by the police.

The man, in a video, said that he had taken the kids hostage as he wanted to speak to a few people.

The man, identified as Rohit Arya who has now been detained by the police, warned that he would set everything on fire and harm the children if he is not able to speak to the people. It was not clear what he wanted to talk about.

The police said all the children had been rescued safely and they were interrogating the hostage-taker to ascertain the reasons behind his action and whether he was mentally stable.

The incident happened in Powai.

“All children have been safely rescued from the spot. The man, Rohit Arya has been detained by the Police. The Police are talking to him and trying to find out why he took such a step and if actually is mentally unstable,” the Mumbai Police said.

It had earlier stated: “A man, identified as Rohit Arya, has held a few children hostage in Powai area of Mumbai. He has released a video purportedly saying that he wants to speak with a few people and if he is not allowed to do it, he will set everything on fire and harm himself and the children. The man seems to be mentally unstable and Police are trying to handle the matter.” - The Statesman/ANN
