YANGON: A four-year-old boy died after being hit by a rock while picking up money and snacks thrown from a train in Bago, according to the Future Star Free Blood and Social Assistance Association.

The incident occurred on the evening of Oct 12.

A four-year-old boy living next to the Okpo Kyungyo railway in Bago was hit by a moving train, fell backwards, and hit a rock, resulting in a head injury.

"He was picking up money and food thrown from the train. Since he was a child, he fell and the train lost speed.

"He was seriously injured and we sent him to North Okkalapa Hospital via Bago Hospital.

"He died at 3am on the Oct 13," said an official from the association.

In Bago, residents living along the railway tracks are reportedly picking up money and food thrown by train passengers. This could put their lives at risk. Officials and social welfare organisations are urging people not to do this.

"When the train arrives, the people on the train throw it. People living on the side of the road also pick it up, so they warn people that it is dangerous to their lives," an official from the association continued.

The deceased child was a member of a family living next to the railway line and, due to financial constraints, the Future Star Free Blood and Social Assistance Association provided 60,000 kyats for hospital transfer and medical treatment. - Eleven Media/ANN
