Vietnam urged to step up prevention of autumn-winter diseases

HANOI: Vietnam's local departments of health have been urged to intensify efforts to prevent and control the spread of autumn-winter diseases in order to minimise infections and fatalities, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday (Oct 18).

The call came amid a potential rise in cases of seasonal influenza, Covid-19, pneumonia, whooping cough, respiratory syncytial virus and diarrhea caused by rotavirus and E. coli.

Cases of dengue fever and hand-foot-and-mouth disease have also shown an upward trend in several localities.

Local departments of health have been requested to enhance sample collection and testing to identify pathogens and detect suspected cases early, especially at borders, medical facilities, schools, industrial zones and populated areas, according to the report. - Xinhua
