Foreign national detained in Brunei Immigration crackdown

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: One foreign national was detained during an immigration enforcement operation conducted by the Immigration and National Registration Department (JIPK) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to a statement issued by the department, the operation was part of ongoing efforts under Operasi Panyap JIPK 2025 to curb immigration offences in Brunei Darussalam. The latest operation targeted a sales stall in Mukim Gadong ‘B’.

During the inspection, two foreign nationals were examined. One was detained and brought to the Law Enforcement Division for further investigation for allegedly working for an employer other than the one stated in their permit — an offence under Regulation 15(2) of the Immigration Regulations, Chapter 17.

The second foreign national was instructed to report to the Law Enforcement Division for further investigation for allegedly working while holding a visit pass, an offence under Regulation 9(4) of the same chapter.

The JIPK urged the public to report information related to immigration offenders via the department’s hotline numbers: 8734888/ 8753888 (Bandar Seri Begawan) and 8984111 (Kuala Belait). - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
