BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) yesterday confirmed in a statement that a report was received via its 993 hotline regarding the discovery of an abandoned baby girl at Pengiran Anak Puteri Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah Religious School in Kampong Kupang, Tutong District, at around 10am on Friday.

According to a witness, upon arriving at the school’s car park to pick up their child from extra classes, they heard a baby crying. The witness found the infant in a baby basket on a table near the car park.

The school contacted the police via the 993 emergency line.

Paramedics brought the baby to Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital in Tutong District for a medical check-up.

The baby is reported to be in stable condition and has been transferred to the Special Care Baby Unit at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital for further treatment.

The RBPF is conducting investigations and urged anyone with information to assist by contacting the Women and Child Abuse Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Department.

The police appealed for the baby’s mother, father or guardian to come forward to assist in the investigation and ensure proper care for the infant.

The RBPF said individuals unable to care for a baby should surrender the infant to the authorities or agencies capable of providing protection and care. — Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network
