BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Lakaran Mural Warisan project was launched to promote community engagement through artistic expression.

The initiative, led by the Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry in collaboration with a local creative, aims to transform selected public spaces in the capital into vibrant visual landmarks, drawing inspiration from Brunei Darussalam’s cultural heritage, national identity and shared values.

The project is carried out on the metal construction hoarding surrounding the former government building accommodating the former national broadcaster, Radio Television Brunei in the capital.

With the participation of 37 artists, including professional visual artists, graffiti artists, muralists, graphic designers and art students along with four differently-abled (OKU) artists from Pusat Bahagia, the initiative underscores inclusivity and collaboration across the creative community.

The project, which spans approximately two to three weeks for the painting phase following design sketching and wall preparation, aims to nurture a sense of ownership, belonging and volunteerism among the youth and citizens.

Through each mural, Brunei’s cultural legacy and community spirit will be vividly reflected in public spaces, serving as lasting symbols of unity, creativity and national pride.

The Lakaran Mural Warisan project not only beautifies Bandar Seri Begawan but also strengthens collaboration between government agencies, youth and the creative sector, celebrating Brunei’s heritage through art that connects people and place. — Borneo Bulletin/ANN
