BANGKOK/VIENTIANE (Bernama): Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will undertake an official visit to Laos on Thursday (Oct 16) to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two neighbours and to strengthen cooperation across key sectors.
Government spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat said Anutin is scheduled to visit Vientiane at the invitation of his Lao counterpart, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
During the visit, Anutin will hold bilateral talks with Sonexay and pay a courtesy call on Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and advance cooperation under the Thailand-Laos Strategic Partnership for Growth and Sustainable Development.
"The visit marks the prime minister’s first official overseas trip and carries special significance as it celebrates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and Laos.
"Both sides aim to lay a solid foundation for future collaboration, with the belief that their close relationship as neighbours will drive shared security, prosperity and sustainability,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Siripong said Anutin is also expected to discuss key areas of mutual interest, including combating narcotics and transnational crime, enhancing public health, education and labour cooperation, and promoting people-to-people exchanges to deepen friendship between the two nations. - Bernama
