Former village headman in Myanmar's Mandalay Region allegedly stabs new chief to death out of dissatisfaction

YANGON: A stabbing and murder occurred in Kyaukse, Mandalay Region, after the old head of the household was said to have been dissatisfied with the new head of the community, according to Myanmar Police Force.

The incident occurred at around 7.30pm on Monday (Oct 13) when U Maung Than, 69, the head of the household in Tada U Kone village, was walking alone along the village road when an unknown man stabbed him with a knife and fled.

As a result of the killing, Maung Than died from stab wounds.

Kyaukse Township police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Suspect U Ba Ko, 51, a local resident of the village, was arrested at his home at 5pm on Oct 14.

Initial investigation revealed that Ban Ko was the former headman of the village and had allegedly stabbed Maung Than to death with a knife because he was dissatisfied with him as the new headman.

Police said that they are continuing to take effective action against the arrested person in accordance with the law regarding the incident. - Eleven Media/ANN
