Laos' Lanexang Airways to launch flights between Xiengkhouang and Luang Prabang

VIENTIANE: Lanexang Airways International will soon introduce a new domestic route linking Xiengkhouang and Luang Prabang provinces, aiming to make travel between the two northern destinations faster and more convenient.

The airline announced that the service will begin on Oct 28, with three flights a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The new route is expected to promote tourism and facilitate business travel between Xiengkhouang, known for its Unesco-listed Plain of Jars, and Luang Prabang, a World Heritage town renowned for its temples and cultural heritage.

Ticket prices will start at 720,000 kip per trip, providing travellers with another domestic travel option as part of the airline’s expansion of its network within Laos.

Currently, Lanexang Airways operates services on the Vientiane–Bokeo–Vientiane, Vientiane–Xiengkhouang–Vientiane, and Bokeo–Luang Prabang–Bokeo routes.

The introduction of the Xiengkhouang–Luang Prabang flights expands the airline’s domestic network, providing travellers with more options to explore northern Laos.

However, for those who prefer overland journeys, several alternatives are available.

Daily buses depart from Phonsavanh of Paek district, the capital of Xiengkhouang, to Luang Prabang, covering approximately tourism in the northern provinces. in about eight hours.

Minivans also operate on this route, offering a slightly faster journey, with fares varying depending on the operator.

For a more comfortable and flexible option, travellers can hire a private car, which takes roughly four to five hours, depending on road conditions.
