VIENTIANE: A high-level delegation from the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party shared in grand celebrations held in Pyongyang, North Korea from October 9-11 to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

The delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security, General Vilay Lakhamfong, who is also a member of the Party’s Politburo. The visit was made at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, on assignment from the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee Thongloun Sisoulith.

It came less than a week after Thongloun, who is also the President of Laos, paid a state visit to Korea on October 7-8, during which he and General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of State Affairs of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, held talks to strengthen ties.

During the visit of General Vilay and his entourage, the delegation attended a grand rally, cultural and gymnastic performances at the May Day Stadium on October 9, and a military parade on October 10, which showcased the achievements and unity of the DPRK.

The delegation also visited several historical and cultural landmarks, such as the birthplace of President Kim Il Sung at Mangyongdae, the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, and the Light Industry Products Exhibition Hall, to learn about the country’s history, resilience and development efforts.

Leaders of the Party and Government, and the people of North Korea, warmly welcomed the Lao delegation, reflecting the deep friendship and respect between the two nations.

The visit further strengthened the longstanding ties between the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Workers’ Party of Korea, reaffirming their shared commitment to mutual support and continued cooperation in areas of common interest. - Vientiane Times/ANN
