China prosecutes three suspects from northern Myanmar over telecom fraud

FUZHOU (Xinhua): Procurators from east China's Fujian Province have filed a public prosecution against three ringleaders of a criminal gang in northern Myanmar for suspected crimes of telecom fraud and intentional homicide targeting citizens in China.

The Quanzhou People's Procuratorate recently filed the case with the Intermediate People's Court of Quanzhou against Wai San and other major suspects of the gang, charging them with crimes that also include extortion and organizing others to cross the border illegally.

The prosecution was initiated in accordance with provisions in the Criminal Law and the Criminal Procedure Law of China, according to the procuratorate.

In another development, Myanmar police have seized 200,000 stimulant tablets in the Yangon region, the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) has announced.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a man in Yangon's Thakayta township on Thursday and confiscated 100,000 stimulant tablets, the CCDAC said.

Another 100,000 stimulant tablets were seized at his residence in Tamwe township, it said.

The suspect has been charged under the country's narcotic drugs law, and further investigations are underway, it added. -- Xinhua
